Table Top Mountain from the gravel road starting from Davidson Ditch.
We went hiking on Table Top Mountain in the White Mountains National Recreation Area with our friends. It was a pretty hot and sunny day and we enjoyed hiking on the 3-mile loop trail, which has no steep slope. The trail is mildly going up pretty much all the way to the top.
We found bunch of berries, many kinds of berries along the trail.
We encountered some interesting creatures, too.
フェアバンクスの北に位置するホワイト・マウンテン国立保養地のエリア内にあるテーブル・トップ・マウンテンにハイキングに行ってきました。
日差しが強くて、気温以上に暑く感じる日でしたが、いろいろな植物や生き物を観察することができました。この辺りは、ベリー類に恵まれているということもあらためて実感しました。

ウラシマツツジの仲間。熊の好物だそうで、英語の名前はベア・ベリーになってます。
Vaccinium uliginosum (Bog Blueberry, or Northern Bilberry).
クロマメノキ…ブルーベリーと呼ばれるベリー類のひとつ。
ここはまだ緑の実がおおかったです。
でもいっぱい…いっぱいありました。
From Davidson Ditch, we drove on a gravel road for a while.
Table Top Mountain looked still far from this point.

This bright pink flowers were blooming pretty much all the way through the trail.

I am just amazed to know that there are so many kinds of edible berries here in Alaska.
日本ではチシマイチゴと呼ばれているそうです。これもまた食べられるベリーのひとつ。

Our friend's dog was leading us and suddenly
this hawk owl showed up and it was watching us really nervously.

there was a baby one close from us and our friend's dog.

The baby owl didn't move...just stayed still...
It must have been scared from us.

私たちが歩くすぐそばに雛鳥がいました。
だから親鳥が警戒してたんですね。
けっこう大きい雛だけど、頭の羽毛がまだふわふわしてて可愛い。

Similar species grows in higher mountains in Japan, too.

We found the same species in Japan, too.
ウメバチソウも咲いていました。
7月もまだ初旬ですが、秋の気配を感じさせる花が咲いていました。

I have seen this gentian in the flower book of Mt. Daisetsu, Hokkaido in Japan,
but I saw this species for the first time by myself.

実物は、今回、初めて見ました。
