初めてのムーンライトえちご。新宿駅23:10発。
Finally I am ready to upload some pictures from our summer trip to Hokkaido.
Here are the pictures taken on the first 2 days of our trip.
We used JR's Hokkaido & East Japan Pass for our trip like the last summer, but this year they extended the valid date from 5 days to 7 days. So, we planned to go to Hokkaido and back home using only 1 ticket each. (Last year, we had to use 2 tickets each.) The ticket costs only 10,000 yen. And you can take any local trains how many times you want.
We took the night rapid "Moonlight Echigo" from Shinjuku to Niitsu, Niigata.
From there we went all the way up to Aomori to catch the night express "Hamanasu" bound for Sapporo. It was our first time to take the "Moonlight Echigo", but there were not too many passengers, so we were able to use another seat to put our feet on and slept pretty good on the way to Niitsu, Niigata. Here is the time schedule of those 2 days...
(Day 1 & 2)
Shinjuku (23:10, August 5th - The rapid train "Moonlight Echigo" - 4:36, August 6th) Niitsu (6:16 - 9:30) Sakata (9:37 - 11:31) Akita (13:19 - 17:10) Aomori - As soon as we got there, we put our bags at the front of the line of people waiting for "Hamanasu" and enjoyed the Nebuta Festival. After that, we took the night express "Hamanasu" at 22:42 and headed towards Sapporo.
やっと北海道旅行の写真が整理できたので、アップしていきます。
去年に引き続き、JRの北海道・東日本パスを使って旅してきました。今年は、7日間に使用期間が延長になったこともあって、その切符1枚で、北海道に行き、帰ってくるというお得なプランを立ててみました。
（途中、思わぬ事態が生じて、結局は、それほどのお得感は得られなかったのですが…）
この切符を有効利用するため、新宿から日付の変わる高崎駅までの乗車券だけ別に購入して、ムーンライトえちごで新潟入りしました。普通は、東北本線側から行くのが王道なのかもしれませんが、やっぱり日本海側の方が車窓の風景は気持ちいいので、このコースにしました。青森はねぶた祭りの真っ最中で、たくさんの人で賑わっていました。

新津から酒田へ向かう途中での日本海。何もない青い海と空だけど、眺めていて落ち着く青さです。

米所で有名な庄内地方の田園風景。鶴岡までもう少し。
"Baba Hera" ice cream in the Akita Sta.
"Baba" means grandmather or old woman, and "Hera" means spatula. An old woman made these cute flowers of ice!
秋田駅で「ババヘラ」アイスを発見。おばちゃんがヘラを巧みに使って、アイスの花を咲かせてくれました。
この「ババヘラ」アイス。秋田の国道沿いなんかで、おばちゃんたちが立ち売り販売しているので地元では有名。私は山形の秋田より出身なので、地元の神社のお祭りとかに、必ずこのアイスの出店が出てたんですよね。子供の頃と変わらない懐かしい味でした。

青森では、ねぶた祭りの最中。たくさんのハネトさんたちが鈴をしゃんしゃん鳴らしながら、跳んでいました。
They move the beatiful huge floats like this with cheerful music.
どうやって作ったんだろうと思ってしまうほど、よく出来ています。
Under the floats there were lots of people who turned and moved the floats.
今回はじめて知ったのは、ねぶたの山車の下で、人々が人力で回したり、動かしたりしていること。
びっくりしました。

青森駅に入線した急行はまなす。冷房が寒いくらいに効いていました。
今回、北海道･東日本パス利用時は、急行券だけは別に手に入れないと乗れなくなってしまいました。
