The Hybrid (April 29th)

Viola phalacrocarpa Viola chaerophylloides f. sieboldiana (Aso Kikuba Sumire).
The hybrid between Viola phalacrocarpa (Akane Sumire)
and Viola chaerophylloides f. sieboldiana (Higo Sumire).

I went to check the hybrid of violet which we found before.
It had beautiful flowers this year, too.

Viola phalacrocarpa Viola chaerophylloides f. sieboldiana (Aso Kikuba Sumire).
There was another plant by the one with flowers.
It seems that somebody plucked the flower stem.
花を付けた株の近くに小さな株を発見…
よく見ると花柄がちぎりとられてますよね。
何の権限があってこんなことするんだろう。

I noticed that there are yellow spots in the center of the flower
like the one of Viola chaerophylloides f. sieboldiana (Higo Sumire).

Here is the close-up of the leaves.

今年もきれいな花を見せてくれてありがとう。

 Viola hirtipes (Sakura Sumire).

 Viola rossi (Akebono Sumire)
There were quite a few of them blooming.

I found only leaves this year.
It seems the flowers were already done.

 Viola eizanensis (Eizan Sumire).

This may be the leaves of a hybrid between
Viola chaerophylloides f. sieboldiana (Higo Sumire)
and Viola eizanensis (Eizan Sumire).

The Oku-musashi Area (April 25th)

Viola x pseudo-makinoi f. concolor (Midori Mitsumori Sumire).
The hybrid between Viola violacea var. makinoi (Makino Sumire)
and Viola sieboldi (Fumoto Sumire).

I went to the Oku-musahsi Area to see some violets in the morning.
There were lots of Viola violacea var. makinoi (Makino Sumire) and Viola sieboldi (Fumoto Sumire) flowers blooming on the ridge.
I found quite a few of the hybrid between these two violets.
It is so interesting to see the diversity of the shapes and colors of the hybrid even if the combination of the parents are the same.

去年に引き続き、今年も見てきました。
マキノもフモトもたくさん咲いていて、その交雑種もかなりたくさん咲いていました。
両親は同じなのに、こんなにも変化があって、面白いですね。

Viola x pseudo-makinoi f. concolor (Midori Mitsumori Sumire).

Viola x pseudo-makinoi f. concolor (Midori Mitsumori Sumire).
Viola violacea var. makinoi doesn't have any tiny hair in the center of the flower,
but this kind of violet has tiny hair in the center of the flower
like Viola sieboldi.

Viola x pseudo-makinoi f. concolor (Midori Mitsumori Sumire).
The leaves look like the ones of Viola sieboldi.

This one also has hair in the center of the flowers.

Viola sieboldi f. variegata (Fuiri Fumoto Sumire).
The hybrid shown above was surrounded with this kind of violets.

Viola x pseudo-makinoi f. concolor (Midori Mitsumori Sumire).
They were forming a patch.
