Oze Trip, Part 2 (July 9th)

Vaccinium oxycoccos (Tsuru Kokemomo).
This one is a kind of cranberry. The flowers are so tiny, but they are pretty lovely.

Here are the rest of the pictures taken on the first day of our Oze Trip.
We walked at the Ozegahara wetland from the camp site to Ushikubi Junction. And then, it started to rain, so we had to go back to the Yamanohana area. When we got back there, we walked around the Kenkyuu Mihon-en before supper. When we back from the short walk, it started to rain harder, and it continued to rain during the night!

Nymphaea tetragona (Hitsuji-gusa).
We could find only a couple of flowers opening far away from the wood trail.

Nymphaea tetragona (Hitsuji-gusa).
This one is a kind of water lily, but the flower is pretty small comparing to the cultivated one.

Nannophya pygmaea (Hacchou Tonbo).
This is the smallest dragonfly in Japan. It was about 2 cm or so.

Drosera rotundifolia (Mousengoke).

Narthecium asiaticum (Kinkouka).

Nuphar pumilum var. ozeense (Oze Kouhone).

Nuphar pumilum var. ozeense (Oze Kouhone).

Mt. Hiuchigatake and Osmundastrum cinnamomeum var. fokiense (Yamadori Zenmai).

Lysimachia thyrsiflora (Yanagi Tora-no-o).

Eriophorum vaginatum (Watasuge).
The field was covered with the white cotton grass! Amazing!

Pogonia japonica (Toki-sou).
There were lots of these beautiful orchids.

Pogonia japonica (Toki-sou).

Iris laevigata (Kakitsubata) right by the wood trail.

Iris laevigata (Kakitsubata).
This kind of color is difficult to show up correctly... Actually the flower color is closer to purple.

Platanthera tipuloides var. nipponica (Koba-no-Tonbo-sou).
Green orchids like this are really difficult to identify... They all look the same.

Polygonatum macranthum (Oo Naruko-yuri). The white balls were the flowers of Allium victorialis subsp. platyphyllum (Gyouja Ninniku). They both are edible plants.

Aquilegia buergeriana (Yama Odamaki).
英語だとcrawfoot(=カラスの足)と呼ばれています。

From here, they are the pictures taken at the Kenkyuu Mihon-en at the Yamanohana area.

Aletris foliata (Nebari-nogiran).

Hemerocallis dumortieri var. esculenta, aka Hemerocallis middendorffii var. esculenta (Nikkou Kisuge, Zenteika).

Hemerocallis dumortieri var. esculenta, aka Hemerocallis middendorffii var. esculenta (Nikkou Kisuge, Zenteika) with Eriophorum vaginatum (Watasuge).

Platanthera hologlottis (Mizu Chidori)?
This one is another kind of orchid. It wasn't open yet.

Caltha palustris var. nipponica (Ryuukinka).
Even if it was after flowering, it sure looked lovely.
