Pedicularis lanata (Woolly Lousewort) at Twelvemile Summit.
ツンドラに覆われた中、いち早く彩りを添えていました。
Here is the first bunch of the pictures taken on our trip to Twelvemile Summit and Eagle Summit. A lot of wild flowers started to bloom in the arctic tundra.
We first stopped at the Twelvemile Summit area and then went to the Eagle Summit area.
As an original plan, we were going to stay in our rig at the Eagle Summit wayside, but it was a little too early for most of the flowers there, so we decided to return to Twelvemile Summit and stay there for the night.
フェアバンクス市街地から北へ伸びるSteese Highwayを車で走らせること２，３時間ほどの（たぶん普通の人は速くたどりつけると思うのですが、自分たちは寄り道しながらなのでゆっくりめです）所にあるTwelvemile SummitとEagle Summitに出かけてきました。
ここは昨年の夏至の頃に訪れて、そのお花畑が広がる光景に感動した場所で、今年はちょっと早めに行ってみてどんな花が咲いているか偵察に行ってきました。（たぶんまたほどなくしてお花見に行くと思います。）

とにかくこのシオガマの仲間が色鮮やかで、
ツンドラの中でひと際目をひく存在でした。

これは毛深くないタイプのシオガマ。
ここも、シオガマの種類が多数あるようで、
同定はいまいちよく分かりません。

ここからはさらに少し北上したEagle Summitの花たち。
まず目にとまったのは、このキンポウゲの仲間。
チシマヒキノカサなる謎の和名があるようです。

we managed to find one blooming.
ウルップソウの仲間は、この一株だけ咲きはじめているのを見つけました。

ちっちゃいナズナみたいなやつ。

ちいさいけど鮮やかな色で目立っていました。

こちらはまだ咲いてませんでした。

We haven't seen this kind of flower before.
They look pretty similar to the flowers we saw in the alpine environment in Japan, which are called "Chinguruma", whose latin name is Geum pentapetalum.
The colors of the petals are different, though.
黄色い花をつけたチングルマ風の植物。
Geumってチングルマとかミヤマダイコンソウとかと同じ仲間らしいです。

蕾のときはよりホワホワの毛で覆われています。

ぎざぎざで艶のある葉っぱがチングルマと似てます。
秋には同じように紅葉するのかな？

ここでもシオガマの仲間が一番目立ってました。

ここは道路からすぐの所にツンドラのお花畑が広がるので、
花好きの人にはお勧めの場所。
フェアバンクスの市街地からは若干、遠いですが、
道路の状態もかなり整備されています。
道路とイーグル・サミットへの登山道入り口の駐車場・トイレ以外、
人工的なものは見当たらない景色が広がります。

ページ状に薄い板のようにはがれる岩がたくさんありました。

There was still ice left on the surface of North Fork 12 Mile Creek.
イーグルサミットからトウェルヴマイル・サミットに戻る途中、
まだ氷で覆われている状態の沢に目がとまりました。

まだまだ花旅が続きますね！
かなり広大ですがいちおうルートはあるのですか？
こうして花を見てると日本の高いところにある高山植物と同じようなものが普通に咲いてるのですね。
氷河期の頃には日本の低山にも分布していたのが氷河期が終わって標高の高いところに逃げ延びて
今も自生しているのだろうということが良く分かりますよね。
夏は短いので、仕事が休みの日は天気が良ければどこかに出かけるようにしてます。
今回行ったところは、道路沿いのすぐそばにツンドラのお花畑があるような所なので、かなり簡単に花が見られます。
ハイキング・ルートも十分、整備されていますよ。
日本と共通する花が多いので、この辺りは八ヶ岳っぽいとか、この辺りは白馬っぽいとかいいながら、散策しています。
といっても高尾山、小仏城山なんかを歩くよりも、ずっと楽な所を歩いているので、身体は確実になまってると思います。
またスミレ、見つけたので、近々アップしますね。
