Wickersham Dome (June 26th)

 

Castilleja elegans (Elegant Indian Paintbrush).

I like this amazing color!

We went to see some Castilleja elegans (Elegant Indian Paintbrush) flowers at the Wickersham Dome area.  I was tired on that day, so I couldn't make it all the way to the dome itself, but we could see quite a few Castilleja elegans (Elegant Indian Paintbrush) flowers in the tundra field on the way to the dome.

Wickersham Domeに、インディアン・ペイントブラシを見に出かけてきました。

この日は体調がすぐれず、頂上までは歩かず、途中まで散策しただけでしたが、お目当ての花を見ることができました。この花の仲間は、何種類か見られるのですが、この種類が一番、鮮やかで好きです。まったく違う仲間ですが、ここら辺の山では、ポジション的に（立ち姿的に）日本で言う所のリンドウに近いような気がします。

チョウノスケソウの仲間は既に花が終わっていました。

ウサギギクの仲間もよく見かける花の1つ。

 

 Artemisia norvegica ssp. saxatilis (Boreal Sagebrush).

タカネヨモギみたいなやつ。

草丈は１０ｃｍから１５ｃｍくらい。

鮮やかな部分は「花」ではなく、包葉だそうです。

Eagle Summit, Central and Twelvemile Summit (Part 4) (June 20th)

 

Marmota caligata (Hoary Marmot) near Eagle Summit.

We stayed at Eagle Summit Wayside after getting caught by the thunder storm.

We went to Central to look for a kind of lady's slipper orchid which we had never seen.

After passing the community of Central, we stopped the car here and there and looked around the area to search for the flowers.   When we felt like giving up searching, I found the orchid right by our rig parked on the road!

雹にうたれた後、ほどなくして雨はやんだので、予定通り、Eagle Summitの駐車スペースに車を止め車中泊。夏至のすぐ直前と言うことで、太陽が沈むことなく地平線ぎりぎりをかすめてまた上っていく様子を途切れ途切れに観察できました。

翌日は、今回のお目当てだったアツモリソウの仲間を見つけることができました。

This ranunculus was floating in the water in the bog by the road.

The flowers were amazingly tiny.
