Road Trip to Fairbanks, Day 11, Part 1 (June 3rd)

 

It was cloudy in Haines on that day, but 

we saw a hummingbird at the friend's garden.

Here is the first bunch of the pictures taken on Day 11 of our road trip.
We hiked a tiny bit to Kluane Rock Glacier on the way to Haines Jct.

Near the U.S./Canada border, no trees were growing.

 

Astragalus purshii (Woolly-Pod Milkvetch).

 オヤマノエンドウみたいなやつ。

 

A kind of Lupinus.

 

Chamerion latifolium (formerly Epilobium latifolium, Dwarf Fireweed).

This one became one of my favorite flowers.

We couldn't find many of this kind of plant during our trip.

小型のヤナギランの一種。色が鮮やかで、草丈のわりに大ぶりな花できれいでした。 

 

On the way to Kluane Rock Glacier,

we started to see some nice mountains again.

We parked our car there and hike a little to the rock glacier.

氷河の名残が見られる所に立ち寄りました。

 

Cornus canadensis (Canadian Bunchberry, Bunchberry Dogwood).

ゴゼンタチバナ…フェアバンクスの自宅の敷地にも群生してます。

 イチヤクソウの仲間。

Saxifraga tricuspidata (Three Toothed Saxifrage).

It looks like the kind which grows higher mountains in Japan, 

 Saxifraga bronchialis subsp. funstonii var. rebunshirensis.

This is one of my favorite flowers.

シコタンソウにすごく似てます。

If you look the flower closely, the petals have colorful spots, 

which make amazing gradations of colors; 

lemon yellow, tangerine, orange, red, crimson.

花だけ見ると、シコタンソウそのものですが…

でも葉っぱは、シコタンソウと違って、

先が３つに割れています。

キンロバイの仲間。

 

Hedysarum boreale subsp. mackenzii (Norther Sweetvetch).

There were lots of this kind of vetch on both sides of the highway

pretty much all the way on that day.

どうやらイワオウギの親戚のようなのですが、

ハイウェイの両側に繁茂していました。
