Mt. Takao and Icchou-daira (December 25th)

The view from the Inariyama course on the way to the top of Mt. Takao.
You can see the Sky Tree.

It was pretty cold in this morning, so we went to the Icchou-daira to see if any frost flowers were forming around the stem of Keiskea japonica (Shimobashira).
Around the Momiji-dai there weren't any nice frost flowers, but at the Icchou-daira we found some big ones. We saw the sun setting near the top of Fuji at the Momiji-dai and walked back to the station. On the way down there we heard the weird noise of Petaurista leucogenys (Japanese giant flying squirrel, Musasabi).

The Nogawa River & Jindai Botanical Garden (December 19th)

The kingfisher at the Nogawa River.

We went to Jidai Botanical Garden in Chofu.
We rode the bicycles by the Nogawa River and found a couple of kingfishers flying by the river.
It wasn't cold enough, so we couldn't see the frost flowers around the stem of Keiskea japonica (Shimobashira) in the garden.

Click on the picture above to get to my 2010 Annual Report!

I looked through all pictures I took this year and sorted out the best pictures.
I made this kind of annual report for the first time.
It was quite interesting to make this report.
If you click on the picture above, you can get to the PDF file of my annual report.
Hope you like it! By the way, the file size is 6.3 MB, so it might take for a while to download it.

Mt. Takao (December 11th)

Mt. Fuji from the top of Mt. Takao.

We went to Mt. Takao to see if any frost flowers are formed yet at the Icchoudaira area.
Unfortunately we couldn't find any of them yet.
However, the sky was clear in the morning, so we could get the nice view of Mt. Fuji and the Sagami Bay and we saw the Enoshima, too!

Upset with His Ignorance.

I found a shocking article on the internet this morning.
It was about some ignorant comment made by Governor Ishihara Shintaro of Tokyo.
He said, "I feel gay people lack something...it must be caused by their genes. I pity them because they are minority." And he added that he thinks it is outrageous that some gay (queer) people are on TV programs so often nowadays...something like that...
He made such a comment while they do some "Human Rights" campaign on the Tokyo Metropolitan Government website. Can you believe this?
In U.S. President Obama participates in the campaign of "The Trevor Project" to prevent young gay people from committing suicide. Compared with that, Governor Ishihara is the one who "lacks" something crucial for a politician, or a human being.

http://mainichi.jp/select/seiji/news/20101208ddm041010103...

Koishikawa Botanical Garden, Hakusan, Tokyo (December 4th)

Ginkgo biloba (Ichou).

We went to Koishikawa Botanical Garden near Hakusan sta. on the Toei Mita Line.
There are lots of nice and big trees in this garden. We were still able to enjoy the beautiful fall colors even after the strong wind yesterday.

Acer palmatum (Iroha Kaede).

There were lots and lots of Ginkgo nuts covering the ground under the tree.

Quercus dentata (Kashiwa).

Acer nikoense (Megusuri-no-ki).

Musashino Park and Nogawa Park (November 27th)

The reeds by the Nogawa River on the way back home from Tonogayato Garden.

Here are the pictures taken in Musashino Park and Nogawa Park on the way back home from Tonogayato Garden. We didn't know we could see so many red maple trees.
It seems we have pretty good fall color this year.
