Showa Kinen Park, Nishi Tachikawa (October 18th)


The Hill of Cosmos.
コスモスの丘。まさに見頃です。

Today I went to see cosmos flowers in Showa Kinen Park, Nishi Tachikawa. Lots of kinds of cosmos flowers were blooming. The main patch of cosmos flowers there was in peak.

昭和記念公園にコスモスを見に行ってきました。色とりどりの様々なコスモスの花であふれていました。「コスモスの丘」のコスモスもちょうど見頃でした。


First of all, I had some sweets bought at Tachikawa sta. on the way.
立川駅エキュート内で買ったTokyo Sweets Factoryの奥沢ロールとエクレアでまずは腹ごしらえ。

At the Japanese garden there. The maple leaves were starting to turn red.

ギンモクセイ。日本庭園の片隅でひっそり咲いていました。甘い香りがします。


This cat was at the entrance of the Japanese garden last time, too.
またも同じ猫がまどろんでいました。

Mitaka and Chofu (October 13th)


Nogawa river.
野川の風景。この辺って何だか和むんですよね。

Today's course:
Remains of waterwheel farm - Chofu airport - National Astronomical Observatory (Mitaka campus)


The old waterwheel farm house of Minegishi family is restored by Mitaka city.
The original waterwheel was built around 1808.
三鷹市によって保存されている峯岸家の水車経営農家跡。


Smaller waterwheel.


Pretty complex structure of grass roof.
萱葺き屋根の複雑な構造。美しささえ感じます。


Wooden gearwheel. How could they make this!
木製の歯車。こんなに複雑なものを作り上げた職人の技術に脱帽です。


Grain threshing system connected to the huge waterwheel.
脱穀用の装置。横の歯車が互い違いなので、突き棒が順番に動いていたそうです。


The huge waterwheel (about 6m) connected on the left.
One huge waterwheel used to produce all the power for the several different kinds of functions; threshing the grain, sifting the grain, moving the millstone, etc.
この左手に巨大な水車がついていて、それが回転する力を歯車に伝えて脱穀や粉ひきなど様々な作業の動力にしていたそうです。


Chofu airport.
調布飛行場。


Propeller cafe at a corner of Chofu airport. It was crowded there. It must be popular.
調布飛行場の一角にあるプロペラカフェ。たくさんの人で賑わっていました。




You can see the airplanes through the windows.
ガラス越しに飛行機が見られます。子供たちに人気のスポットのようです。


National Astronomical Observatory.
国立天文台。後ろの受付所の建物も素敵です。


The first dome and solar 8-inch refractor.
The dome was built in 1921, which is the oldest building there.
第一赤道儀室。


This telescope, made by Carl Zeiss, was installed in 1927 and was originally used for solar prominence observations since 1931.
太陽の黒点観察などに主に活躍していたそうです。ドームの建設には船大工の船底を造る技術が使われたそうです。


65-cm refractor and its dome.
65センチ屈折望遠鏡。


It is so huge telescope, of which focal length is ten meters. It has been used mainly for the photographic observation of the motion of celestial objects since 1929.
とにかく巨大です。

手回し式の計算機。


The exact same tea I used to have with my lunch at the university.
大学の頃、よくお昼ご飯と一緒に飲んでいた大学生協のぶれんど茶。


Solar Tower Telescope (also known as The Einstein Tower)
Tangible Cultural Properties of Japan.
This facility was built in 1930 to make precise spectroscopic observations of the Sun. This entire building functions as a telescope and a spectrograph.
太陽塔望遠鏡(通称、アインシュタイン塔)。登録有形文化財です。


Gautier Meridian Circle.
ゴーチェ子午環。


Interesting facade.
正面から見ると面白い構造をしています。


Osmanthus fragrans var. aurantiacus (Kinmokusei, Sweet Olive) at the campus.
キャンパス内で見つけたキンモクセイ。いい香りです。
