Table Top Mountain (Part 1) (July 8th)

 

Surnia ulula (Northern Hawk-Owl).

We went to hike on Table Top Mountain in Nome Creek area in early July.

As soon as we started hiking on the trail, we found 4 or 5 of Surnia ulula (Northern Hawk-Owl) younglings pretty close from us.  They were so adorable!

There were lots of fireweed flowers blooming by the trail and the road.

去年の夏、友人と一緒に登ったTable Top Mountainに登ってきました。

去年もオナガフクロウを見つけたのですが、今年も見ることができました。

7月の初めだというのに、山の花はあっという間に初秋を感じさせる花にかわっていました。

途中のハイウェイわきにあるこれ、何でしょう？

電信柱にできたミサゴの巣を移設したものでした。

恐らく停電とかの原因になるからすぐ側に移してあげたんだと思う。

ここでは去年もミサゴを見ました。

今回、ハイキングするテーブルトップ・マウンテン。

道路脇にはヤナギランが群生しています。

登山道をスタートするや否やオナガフクロウの雛に遭遇。

頭の羽毛がポワポワしててかわいい。

４，５羽の雛が近くにいました。

確かに「オナガ」という和名が付いたのも納得です。

 Arctic Goldenrod or Northern Goldenrod). 

ミヤマアキノキリンソウみたいな花。

ここいらの山の花々は、

7月初旬ですがもう晩夏～初秋な装いです。

しばらくこんな感じの昔の山火事の跡を歩いていきます。

キンロバイもよく見かけました。

(Northern Grass of Parnassus, Marsh Grass of Parnassus). 

ウメバチソウの仲間。

 

Rumex arcticus (Arctic Dock).

 

Moneses uniflora (Single Delight or Shy Maiden).

 

Rubus chamaemorus (Cloudberry). 

ホロムイチゴが実を付け始めていました。
