Sawai and Mitake (February 9th)

沢井から御岳方面へ向かう途中。まだ少し雪が残っています。

We went to Sawai today and tasted some Sake at the Ozawa brewery. Then we walked down the trail beside the Tama river to Mitake sta. On the way to Mitake we saw many birds even including Tarsiger cyanurus (Ruri Bitaki, Red-flanked bluetail)! For my camera I couldn't take nice picture of him, but my friend, Daniel took really nice one. The bird got beautiful blue feathers with yellowish orange side. We also found one flower of Viola grypoceras (Tachitsubo Sumire). It started snow around 2 pm after our lunch. We went back to Sawai sta. on foot then took the train to Mitake, and then took the Okutama holiday special train back to home.

沢井、御岳周辺の多摩川沿いを散策してきました。まず沢井の小澤酒造さんで新酒の試飲をした後、ゆっくり、多摩川沿いを歩いていると沢山のメジロたちが出てきたかと思ったら、ルリビタキの雌が姿を現わしました。ひょとしたらと期待しながら歩いていると、今度はきれいな青い羽根の雄鳥が姿を見せてくれました。多摩川の背景に広がる山々にはまだ点々と雪が残っていました。お昼のおにぎりを食べ終えた頃から冷え込んできたと思ったら、２時くらいには雪が降り出してきました。またルリビタキがいるかもと思い、再び沢井方面に引き返してみると、またも雄鳥に出会うことができました。「青い鳥」に出会えて何だか幸せな気持ちになった今日の散策なのでした。
